Pour la dernière conférence de la troisième saison du cycle Architecture & Culture organisé en partenariat entre la Faculté d’Architecture de l’ULg et la Société libre d’Émulation, nous recevons Joe Morris du bureau londonien DUGGAN MORRIS ARCHITECTS pour une intervention (en anglais) intitulée The Craft of Making; The Role of the Model.

Fondé en 2004 par Mary Duggan et Joe Morris, issus de la Bartlett School of Architecture à Londres (UCL), DUGGAN MORRIS ARCHITECTS est un jeune bureau ayant acquis une renommée internationale pour ses projets de construction complexes, résultat de la conciliation du conflit apparent entre les intentions formelles du concepteur et les conditions sociales, politiques, culturelles, historiques ou économiques du lieu et du programme.

En 2015, deux projets clés, Brentford Lock Ouest, un ensemble de logements au bord de l’eau à Brentford, et une nouvelle piscine du complexe sportif pour l'école Alfriston dans le Buckinghamshire ont chacun reçu un prix RIBA. Ils ont par la suite été à la fois récompensés par le RIBA Stirling Prize ainsi que par une nomination pour le prix de l’Union européenne pour l’architecture contemporaine Mies van der Rohe dans la même année.

For this seasons last conference of the series Architecture & Culture, organized in a partnership between the Faculty of Architecture of Liège University and the association Société libre d'Émulation, we welcome Joe Morris of the London based office DUGGAN MORRIS ARCHITECTS to talk about their practice in a lecture called The Craft of Making; The Role of the Model.

Founded in 2004 by Mary Duggan and Joe Morris, who both of them studied at the Bartlett School of Architecture, London (UCL), DUGGAN MORRIS is a young architectural practice internationally renowned for its complex building projects which are the result of reconciling the perceived conflict between the formal intentions of the designer and the social, political, cultural, historical and economic conditions of place and programme.

In 2015, two key completed projects, Brentford Lock West, a river side housing regeneration scheme in Brentford, and a new sports wing and swimming pool for Alfriston School in Buckinghamshire both received RIBA national awards, and subsequently both reached the RIBA Stirling Prize as well as a nomination for the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award in the same year.

Mary Duggan and Joe Morris are both teaching at the Bartlett School of Architecture in London.
